Bikram Yoga TMR - New StudentsThe classes offered at Jazz Yoga School are a Jazz Yoga 555, the beginners Hatha Yoga series 26 -2, Gentle Yoga, Yin Yoga and Kids Yoga. We welcome advanced students alike. The important thing is to take it at your own pace and do the best you can with the body you have that day.

Whether you are a beginner or a more experienced student, here are a few things to keep in mind:

First Class

Bring your open mind, hydrated body, mat, towel and water bottle. No glass bottles or colored drinks please. We can rent or sell you a mat, towel, and water. The mind part is up to you!

Come hydrated and avoid eating 2-3 hours before class

Drink water continually throughout the day before class. Come to yoga hydrated so you can concentrate on your practice and breathing rather than drinking water. Drink fluids with electrolytes but low in sugar. Avoid eating heavy meals 2-3 hours before class.

Focus on yourself and be still between postures

Breathe. Concentration is a cornerstone of yoga. Regular practice will develop awareness of yourself and the ability to still your body between the postures. The heat becomes your friend, facilitating your practice. Focus on yourself in the mirror, let negative thoughts pass and keep your inner voice positive.

Stay in the room

Breathe. If you feel dizzy, nauseous or anxious, sit down on your mat. Walking in and out of the room might stress your body and slows the detoxification benefits from continuous sweating in the hot room. Better to sit quietly than get up, lie down, walk in or walk out. Instead, conserve your energy for yoga. Some days you will need to sit out a posture; no problem. By staying in the hot room, you give yourself a chance and discover your body’s limits and surprising potential. Avoid lying in savasana during the standing series.

Take your second class within 24 hours of your first class

You might feel like all you did was struggle and sweat but your first class awakens and stimulates every major system of your body. Yoga is a daily practice with cumulative benefits. Your second class builds upon the first in the nourishment, balance and detoxification of your entire body.

Give it at least 10 classes and take them as close together as possible

We recommend at least 10 classes a month to experience the benefits of yoga. It only takes a class or two to feel better but to really soar, give yourself at least 10 classes and take them as close together as possible. Ask us about the Hot Hatha Yoga Challenge.

It’s yoga “practice”, not yoga “perfect”

Yoga is about trying your best with what you have that day. As long as you are trying the right way and you don’t give up, that is the ultimate destination.

Every class is different

The beauty of practicing Hot Hatha Yoga is that it gives you a daily opportunity to discover more about your body, mind, and spirit. Your body is different every day but class is exactly the same. Those days when you think you’re too tired or stressed for yoga often end up being the most energizing classes. If you feel discouraged by a difficult class, you always have another chance tomorrow.

Relax and enjoy yourself!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask us.

We look forward to seeing you in the hot room!

Namaste.
